New Horses...32 of them....

....and they are all green! It was time to upgrade my tractor ride this year. Actually got it in August but I've have hardly had a chance to get familiar with all the gizmos. Of course, all the controls are in the opposite sides as the prior model so I need to learn my rights and lefts again.

It's been one heck of a year. Just ask Maggie! She decided to help me one Sunday morning when I was filling the wood pile. One minute she was carrying sticks around and the next she was violently vomiting!

She got worse very quickly and was hacking up blood while I was trying to contact our regular vet...but she's gone so I had to call the next nearest in Durand. It was a hair raising twenty mile trip, going way faster than I wanted to drive while she's retching the whole way, crying and wheezing. I'm PRAYING we make it there before it's too late! She's was suddenly too quiet in the back seat as I pulled into the vet clinic. I opened the door to find her....ok! And then I noticed the bloody stem of the problem lying next to her:

A pine branch! She had finally puked it out by herself! The young vet noted wryly "I think we've found the source of the problem!" Indeed! Thank you, God! What a relief! She had a very sore throat for a few days but it didn't stop her from PICKING UP A STICK the first opportunity she had when she got back outside. Retrievers.....OY!

Life on the farm is kinda laid back? Not really......

Next episode: I got bit by a flying squirrel. (It's no wonder I never have time for updates!)
