New Horses...32 of them....

....and they are all green! It was time to upgrade my tractor ride this year. Actually got it in August but I've have hardly had a chance to get familiar with all the gizmos. Of course, all the controls are in the opposite sides as the prior model so I need to learn my rights and lefts again.

It's been one heck of a year. Just ask Maggie! She decided to help me one Sunday morning when I was filling the wood pile. One minute she was carrying sticks around and the next she was violently vomiting!

She got worse very quickly and was hacking up blood while I was trying to contact our regular vet...but she's gone so I had to call the next nearest in Durand. It was a hair raising twenty mile trip, going way faster than I wanted to drive while she's retching the whole way, crying and wheezing. I'm PRAYING we make it there before it's too late! She's was suddenly too quiet in the back seat as I pulled into the vet clinic. I opened the door to find her....ok! And then I noticed the bloody stem of the problem lying next to her:

A pine branch! She had finally puked it out by herself! The young vet noted wryly "I think we've found the source of the problem!" Indeed! Thank you, God! What a relief! She had a very sore throat for a few days but it didn't stop her from PICKING UP A STICK the first opportunity she had when she got back outside. Retrievers.....OY!

Life on the farm is kinda laid back? Not really......

Next episode: I got bit by a flying squirrel. (It's no wonder I never have time for updates!)

New Items on SherriStudio Etsy

The time flies by so fast it's hard to keep up with all the new items! My Etsy shop, SherriStudio, has continued to keep me very busy making photography boxes and wedding accessories. Here's a sampling of the most recent items.
OUR HOUSE is a popular card box for weddings and anniversaries.
It's a very, very, very fine house! It won't hold a cat or a dog, but will it will hold a boatload of cards stuffed with cash and well wishes!

The EMERALD holds 11x14 photos with two compartments for USB, etc.
My customers always have the best ideas and it is a pleasure to transfer wishes into reality.
Super tall hurricanes 7x24" tall; 6x18" tall; 5x12" tall

This photo was shared by a customer of multiple hurricane sets busily at work!

My newest 5x7 photo box is THE EDGE!

A New Year Surprise!

I made the way to the basement as I do many times a week to do laundry, check the oil tank, and clean a litterbox. WOW I found a tiny 8" garter snake baby at the foot of the stairs. In the past I have found a dozen or more during the summer months but to find one of this size in the winter months is just amazing. The poor "guy" was so dehydrated and close to death. I put him in an ice cream pail and put some water in it and just hoped he could plump up a bit. He lived on the kitchen counter under a light for a few days and started to look perkier.....with his little head peaking up out of his forest floor bedding.

We are so fortunate to have a Snake Man who lives in our neighborhood who agreed to take in the orphan and has since named him Homer! A homer he is and he has a good one now with one who knows how to take care of him and who will keep him alive until spring when he can go out to the wild and share his own snakey story of survival.
